Last week, a friend gave me a gift of a book called Joni & Ken by Ken and Joni Eareckson Tada with Larry Libby. I’ve read a lot of wonderful books over the years, but cannot think of one that made a more profound impact. I couldn’t put it down. This is a book about what it really means to know Jesus and to be like Him. The abundant life of Jesus flooded Ken Tada all because He asked God to speak to him in quiet, set-aside moments. God spoke, and Ken responded.
The highlights of the book for me were how God transformed Ken, as well as the pictures of the bride and bridegroom (Jesus and us), especially on Pages 73-74. Joni recounts her thoughts just before her father rolled her wheelchair down the aisle. She felt self-conscious and unworthy with track marks on her gown. But when she saw Ken at the end of the aisle looking for her, all her negative thoughts were washed away by the intense, watchful love in his eyes. Isn’t that how it will be when we see Jesus?! – no focus on our failures or imperfections, but a total delight at the sight of Him and His accepting eyes.
Pages 152-153 are also supreme highlights that define true peace and true courage! I highly recommend this life-changing book for everyone!
