The Psalm 145 print is called an illumination. An illuminated manuscript is calligraphed words that include illustration in the form of decorated capital letters, borders or small illustrations. In former times, these manuscripts were defined by their use of actual gold or silver.
The Psalm 145 print is a signed and numbered, 15½ by 24-inch print available for $25. The original art for this print is 25 by 39 inches. I executed the letters with a pointed-pen and painted the border with gouache (an opaque watercolor).
This intricately delicate artwork draws you to come close to examine each word of the Lord in this Psalm.
Script writing with a pointed pen flourished in the late 1800s and early 1900s during the Golden Age of Ornamental Penmanship when master, itinerant penmen competitively promoted and propagated their particular styles among school students and in business. Today, script writing and good penmanship are almost lost skills, but anyone can learn this relaxing art! Click here to see the free instructions if you want to learn.
